In the heart of the Margeride region, Chaulhac is a village with several distinctive features and curiosities that make it unique in the canton. Among them is the village's communal bread oven. Dating from 1833, it is one of the few to be double-decker. Indeed, inside, a single ovenhouse serves two heating rooms. Built of granite and covered with schist slabs, this small structure is remarkable. Nearby, there is also a decorated cast-iron fountain, which is also unique in the canton. The village is made up of a wide variety of farmhouses from all periods and styles. Chaulhac is the only village to have plastered houses dating from the early 20th century. The windows all feature polychrome frames and decorations, as well as a cornice decorated with various geometric patterns. Among the buildings in the village, some offer notable features such as this pretty house dating from 1800 with a lintel decorated with blacksmith's tools.
