CHAM PLATEAU

The Cham plateau overlooks Marvejols, a true invitation to stroll. A remarkable landscape crisscrossed by dry stone walls, "chazelles," and paths forming a puzzle of small agricultural plots. Since the Neolithic period, people have inhabited and worked these lands, moving their stones. It's difficult to precisely date the walls and chazelles, as each generation contributed to their construction. It's believed that the plateau began to take on its current appearance from the 12th century onwards. In every season, the plateau is very popular with locals for Sunday walks, through this labyrinth of paths that sometimes blend seamlessly with the stone walls. Depending on the way the paths are sunken, you'll see the Trucs du Midi and St. Bonnet hills appear and disappear. Enjoy the magnificent view of Marvejols, the Belle of Gévaudan, both at the start and finish. At the end of the day, wait until dusk and take the time to watch it don its cloak of light.
