The castle chapel, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, was once part of the fortified complex of the Château des Barons d'Apcher. It is first mentioned in 1145. Built on the rock with granite stones and covered with schist slabs, it is unique in having a small, lower room. The entrance door, surmounted by a low arch, reveals an interior where simplicity and architectural ornamentation blend. The springing of the vault is highlighted by a delicate molding, decorated with a red ochre frieze, a color also found on the transverse arch and the capitals. It was in this chapel that the famous "Virgin of Apcher" was "rediscovered" in 1960 by Abbot Poudevigne. For safety reasons, it is currently on display in the Saint-Hippolyte collegiate church in Malzieu-Ville (6 km from Apcher). The chapel is open to the public all year round.
