The presence of the Reformed Church in Saint-Germain-de-Calberte dates back to 1560, at the time of the arrival of a former bookseller from Geneva. The existence of a temple in the 17th century is attested, and Saint-Germain was even the center of one of the three colloquies of the Cévennes. This religious importance explains the choice of Abbé Chayla, in charge of organizing the repression of Protestants in the Cévennes, to establish his seminary there.
Following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, the temple of Saint-Germain was immediately destroyed and was not rebuilt until 1824.
It is a massive building with a rectangular plan and large dimensions. This amplitude is explained by the religious importance of Saint-Germain in the 19th century, which was the chief town of one of the five consistorial churches of Lozère.
The pulpit is remarkable for its quality of execution
