SAINT-FREZAL CHURCH
48170 SAINT-FREZAL-D'ALBUGES
Saint-Frézal d'Albuges has a very beautiful Romanesque church, which is certainly worth the detour. Its attested antiquity dates back to 1227, the date of its first mention, but it seems to be even older.
Probably damaged by the religious wars of the 16th century, it nevertheless presents very beautiful Romanesque characteristics, which have also earned it its classification as a Historic Monument.
Its plan is that of a nave of three bays with a slightly broken barrel vault, ending in a semi-circular apse with a cul-de-four vault. Semi-circular arches falling on columns, typically Romanesque, are visible on the walls of the apse. The capitals of the columns are carved with leaves.
Outside, you can admire the elegance of the building, with its semicircular arches surmounting the bays, its sculpted modillions running along the cornice and the deep portal with three arches.
