At dusk, a strange and surreal atmosphere prevails. The falling night is palpable, like a dark mist made of vapour. Curfew has been imposed and police regulations require night-time passers-by to carry no weapons and to be equipped with a lantern. The patrols are on the lookout, but they cannot see everything: the bandits, the thefts, the brawls outside the cabaret, the fires starting from candles, the stolen kisses of lovers who meet without being seen, before their wedding…
